born horny

Oh man, the spring is here. My neighborhood has become a sea of strollers, so many hidden winter yuppie babies flood the streets. Procreation. Even the rats have boners. The pigeons are doing that thing where their heads get all poofed out, their red eyes get all googly, and they start chasing around and raping the women pigeons. Ah, spring.
My windows are open and the fresh air is clearing away a winter’s worth of mustiness, smokiness, and booziness. I feel fantastic, and breathing in general is a new experience -- time of the season to write new songs! Songs about rat boners. Actually, we’re writing a new song right now called Hot Slave. It’s a long song. I think. I mean, 4 minute songs are long, right? I can’t tell anymore. It’s going to rule though.
We finished shooting our music video for Oh Man! last sunday. We got to film in a jewelry store called Blando’s Marry Me Jewelry in LaGrange (LaGrunge). It was awesome. The guy that owns the place is Geno Blando. Coolest name ever. And he was nice enough to let us film in there all day. Most of the footage is of Shawn casing the joint. And even a few of our friends make cameos in the video. The whole project should be done in a month or two. It will be hilarious!
Anyhow. I’m so happy right now that I don’t even care I have to go to work and wait tables and get scolded by children because their rice is too spicy.
We can’t wait for tour. We will be in your town soon.

syb island

Current mood: blustery

Dudes, I’ll tell you what, it has been a long winter here on syb island. We’ve been staying in; holed up in the practice space with wet feet, stomping on pedals, breaking whiskey bottles and listening to Roger Miller, who reminded us that we can’t rollerskate in watermelon patches or drive around with tigers in our car.

I think we need a van tiger.

Anyway, as shitty as the weather is here in Chicago in the winter, we’ve been having a pretty hilarious time of it all. We’ve been getting back into writing new songs after we finished our new record, which, by the way, will be officially borne on May 20th. Just like Cher, Jimmy Stewart, Joe Cocker, and Busta Rhymes. So you know it’ll be good. May 20th is also my birthday. I’ll be 25 this year. That’s insanity... it’s been almost five years since we founded the syb. What are we doing with our lives?

Slaying, that’s what. And hopefully touring and travelling more and more. Like sxsw, we just got back from there about a week ago. It was fun, as always. We had a splendid time kickin it with the Absolutely Kosher crew, eating best wurst, and watching all of our friends get to rock at there respective showcases and parties. It’s hard to stay in one place very long down there but i was particularly patient when it came to watching Colour Revolt and Anathallo play at Spiros, Cloud Cult at the Emo’s annex, and this sweet Austin band called Transmography at some bar that was about as big as a turd. Bear in Heaven, Pattern is Movement, and the Gang ruled too at Friend Island. Ah, what a blur.

No more blur-outs. right. Seriously though, I want to write here a lot more often to commit things to memory and to share what I do remember from all of our adventures on syb island; a land of mystery and wonder. and piracy! and rumrunning!and damsels! and BLOOD! mwah ha ha ha ha. just a band adrift more than anything else.

soon, angela

what's crackin akron/whiteouts

What's Crackin Akron?/ Whiteouts

So we're in this snowstorm in Indiana right now, Eric is driving and I'm writing this to distract myself from the road conditions. We're going 35 mph or something so even though we're only 100 miles from the Chi it's going to be at least 3 hrs. We've been driving since what, 11am, and its 11 pm now. Not my favorite part of being in a band. But that's enough of the doom and gloom, you'll get the wrong impression, we really had a ton of fun this weekend.

Friday we played in Akron at the remodeled Musica where Eric coined the phrase 'What's crackin Akron?'. It seems to be sticking as does the curse of the missing leg.

We played Pittsburgh on Saturday. It is very pretty.

The reason for the trip was opening for Brand New on Sunday in Albany. The show was at a 4000 seat basketball arena, a surreal experience for sure as the show was sold out. I think Angela captured it best when we walked in by exclaiming "Whoa, this is big!" The crowd was great, super pumped, and the sound was arena-esque. It was really nice of Brand New to ask us to play, real nice. They put on a great show and are real sweethearts.

Which brings us back to now, some 87 miles from Chicago and still snowing. You know how semi's seem to fly by you in bad weather? I hate that.
